E.V. Charger Rebate Guide

With the sale of gas-powered cars being phased out by 2035, electric car infrastructure has never been more important. The BC government offers several rebates to install new electric vehicle chargers. We've created this guide so you can find the best incentives for your installation.

Single Family Homes

If you want to install a level 2 charger in your house, you can expect a rebate worth 50% of the cost, up to $350. With most installations costing $1,000 or more, you'll likely collect the maximum $350 rebate on your installation.

If you install a smart charger (see our blog post on EV chargers types) you'll also be eligible for an extra $250 rebate, bringing the total rebate to $600.

Multi Family Dwellings

The rebates for condos, apartments, and townhouse complexes are a little more complex. Rebates come in phases of planning and building EV infrastructure.

The first rebate is offered for developing an EV Ready plan. An EV Ready plan is a professional document prepared by an electrical contractor or electrical engineer. It outlines a plan to install at least one EV charger per residential unit. The rebate for this plan covers 75% of the cost up to $3,000.

The second rebate is for the installation of the basic EV infrastructure in line with your EV Ready plan. This includes the cost of engineering services, electrical installation, construction costs, permit costs and even EV parking signs. The infrastructure rebate covers 50% of the cost up to $600 per parking stall. The maximum total infrastructure rebate is $120,000, or 200 stalls at $600 each.

The final rebate covers the purchase and installation of chargers. It covers 50% of the cost up to $2,000 per charger and up to $14,000 per building complex.

Workplaces

When installing chargers for employee use, business owners can receive 50% of the cost per charger up to $2,000. The business rebate maxes out at $14,000 per site but organizations can apply for rebates for up to 4 different sites.

Rebates may change in the future so for the latest information visit the BC Hydro rebate page at electricvehicles.bchydro.com/incentives/charger-rebates or give us a call at 250-339-6383 and we can help get you started with EV charging.
